YouTube Removes 2.25M Videos in India: Insights from Q4 2023 Report
YouTube took down more than 2.25 million videos in India from October to December 2023 due to rule violations. This means India had the most video removals compared to other countries like the United States and Russia. Singapore followed with around 1.2 million video removals, and the US had about 788,000 videos taken down.
Indonesia and Russia also had a significant number of video removals, with 770,000 and 516,000 respectively. This information comes from YouTube's report on enforcing its rules globally.
In total, YouTube removed over 9 million videos worldwide during that time. It's interesting to note that most of these removals, over 96%, were initially flagged by machines, not people.
These videos were removed because they violated YouTube's rules on various topics, like harmful content, child safety, violence, nudity, sexual content, and misinformation.
When a channel gets terminated for breaking rules multiple times, all its videos get removed. In this quarter, nearly 95.5 million videos were taken down due to channel terminations.
YouTube explained that channels can get terminated if they repeatedly break rules within a short period, engage in severe abuse, or are entirely focused on violating guidelines (often seen with spam accounts).
The platform emphasized its commitment to keeping a safe and lively community. India led the way among 30 countries in terms of video removals, according to the report.
