Mohammed Shami Receives Arjuna Award
In a splendid ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi, President Droupadi Murmu presented the prestigious Arjuna Award to Team India's ace pacer, Mohammed Shami. This accolade, India's second-highest sporting honor, is a recognition of Shami's outstanding performance in the 2023 World Cup, where he emerged as the leading bowler, claiming an impressive 24 wickets in just seven matches.
Expressing his joy, Shami shared, “This award is a dream; life passes, and not everyone gets to win this honor. I am happy that I have been nominated for this award.” Shami's remarkable contribution to the ODI World Cup caught the attention of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), leading to his well-deserved recommendation for the Arjuna Award.

It's noteworthy that Shami, initially left out of the playing XI in the first four games of the World Cup, entered the team due to an unfortunate ankle injury to Hardik Pandya during the match against Bangladesh on October 19.
Apart from Mohammed Shami, other notable sports personalities honored with the Arjuna Award this year include wrestler Antim Panghal, boxer Mohammad Hussamuddin, and para-archer Sheetal Devi. The diverse list of winners across various sports showcases the country's rich talent pool.
