Ricky Ponting : “We'd still want to have him around for IPL”

In a heartfelt statement, Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting expressed his team's desire to have India batter Rishabh Pant in the dugout for the  Indian Premier League (IPL), which will begin in March or April. Rishabh Pant suffered a potentially fatal injury in December of last year.

After escaping a terrible vehicle accident in the final week of December, India wicketkeeper and DC captain Pant was disqualified from the IPL and is now recovering in Mumbai following many operations.

Simply said, you cannot replace those individuals. Players like that don't grow on trees. We need to consider adding a wicketkeeper-batsman to the team as a substitute, and we already are.

We'd still want to have him around even if he's not physically capable of playing, Ponting stated on the ICC Review.

Being the captain, he serves as a type of cultural leader for the group, and we all adore him for his positive attitude, contagious laugh, and infectious grin.

“I want him to sit next to me in the dugout every day of the week if he can really travel and be with the club.”

When we meet up in Delhi in the middle of March to begin our camps and other activities, I'll be sure to ask if he can attend since I want him there the entire time.

India and Australia are scheduled to face each other in a highly anticipated four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. The two sides are also expected to play each other in the June ICC World Test Championship final.

Ponting thinks India would suffer a significant setback without Pant against Australia.

I believe he is among the top six or seven Test batters in the world. (Pant is now ranked sixth in the ICC men's Test batting rankings.) Ponting enquired.

“We all likely believed he would do better in T20 and one-day cricket than in Test cricket when he initially began, but it has turned out to be the opposite. His play in Test matches has been outstanding.

“We are aware of his previous performance against Australia in Australia even for the next four-Test series against them.

He would have been anticipating that series, and everyone else would have been eager to watch him play.

On December 29, the 25-year-old Pant's automobile got involved in a collision when he was travelling from Delhi to Roorkee.

The athletic wicketkeeper-batter was brought to a nearby hospital and then sent to the Max Hospital in Dehradun.

Pant was then flown to Mumbai, where he had three successful operations with the assistance of famous orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala.

He will be out of commission for at least a year.
