As the Lok Sabha Election 2024 gears up for its first phase on April 19, banks in certain cities will be closed. This is in line with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar for 2024. It's not just a regular bank holiday; this closure is due to the polling days happening in these cities.

The elections are happening in seven phases, with the first phase kicking off on April 19. Following that, the subsequent phases are on April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and finally, June 1, when the seventh phase will take place.
Now, for the cities affected on April 19: Chennai, Dehradun, Itanagar, Jaipur, Kohima, Nagpur, and Shillong. If you're in these places, note that banks will be closed on that day.

Uttarakhand has declared April 19 a public holiday for voting. The same goes for Nagaland, where all employees, whether in government, private, or business sectors, will have paid time off on April 19.
