Anuj Thapan, Arrested in Salman Khan House Firing, Dies

Tragic news has surfaced regarding Anuj Thapan, aged 23, one of the accused detained in connection with the recent firing incident outside Salman Khan‘s residence. Authorities reported that Thapan, who hailed from Punjab and was apprehended on April 26, was found dead by suicide in a shared holding cell at the Mumbai police headquarters.

According to police sources, Thapan, also known as Anujkumar Omprakash Thapan, had been confined along with 11 others in a common lock-up reserved for individuals under investigation for various crimes by the crime branch and the economic offences wing.

Reports indicate that Thapan was discovered hanging from the window grill of the restroom around 12:30 pm. Fellow inmates, concerned by his prolonged absence, found him and alerted authorities. Despite efforts to revive him, Thapan was pronounced dead upon arrival at Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital. His body will undergo a post-mortem examination at JJ Hospital, and the State CID will handle the investigation into his death.

A fellow detainee disclosed that Thapan had been visibly distressed since the previous night, fearing the severity of the charges against him and the implications under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), as invoked by the Mumbai police.

The MCOCA charges were leveled against Thapan and his associate, Sonu Subhash Chander, for their alleged involvement in supplying firearms used in the incident outside Salman Khan's residence. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the gunfire.

The crime branch identified the suspects as members of the organized crime syndicate linked to Lawrence Bishnoi and his brother Anmol Bishnoi. Anmol Bishnoi had publicly claimed responsibility for the attack via social media, prompting a lookout notice from the police.

The investigation saw the arrest of the alleged shooters, Vicky Kumar Gupta and Sagar Kumar Pal, two days after the incident, followed by Thapan and his associate's apprehension in Punjab.

Authorities alleged that Thapan, employed as a truck cleaner, was acting on instructions from Lawrence Bishnoi's gang, facilitating the delivery of weapons used in the attack. The recovered firearms and ammunition were found discarded in the Tapi River.

This unfortunate incident underscores the complexities surrounding crime investigations and the toll it take on the individuals involved. It also serves as a reminder of the importance of mental health support during challenging times. If you or someone you know needs assistance, please consider reaching out to the helplines provided.
