Rocket Attack: Iraq Targets US-Led Coalition Base in Syria

Rockets were launched from northern Iraq into Syria, aiming at a military base of the US-led coalition fighting jihadists. Iraqi security forces swiftly initiated a search operation in Nineveh province after the attack, marking the first significant strike against coalition forces in weeks.

A US-led coalition base in Syria was targeted by rocket fire late on Sunday, as reported by the Iraqi Security Media Cell. Though it's unclear if there were casualties, at least one rocket hit the base, according to Rami Abdulrahman from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Following the attack, Iraqi forces began an extensive search and inspection operation near the Syrian border to capture the perpetrators. While the Islamic Resistance in Iraq didn't explicitly claim responsibility, they hinted at resuming military actions against American troops after Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani‘s recent visit to the US. The group urged Al-Sudani to negotiate the departure of US forces from Iraq within three months.

This attack follows an explosion at an Iraqi base controlled by the Popular Mobilization Forces, an alliance of Iran-aligned militias, which resulted in one death and eight injuries. The US denied involvement in that incident. The group's statement suggests that this attack is just the beginning of escalated actions, marking the third strike on the same site within 24 hours.
