Pepperfry Co-Founder Ambareesh Murty Dies in Leh

In a saddening turn of events, Ambareesh Murty, the co-founder of Pepperfry, has passed away due to a cardiac arrest while in Leh. His fellow co-founder, Ashish Shah, shared this heartbreaking news, leaving many in shock.

Ashish Shah took to social media to express his grief, stating, “It is with immense sorrow that I share the news of the untimely demise of my dear friend, mentor, brother, and soulmate, Ambareesh Murty. He left us last night due to a sudden cardiac arrest in Leh. Let us come together in prayer for him and to offer strength to his family and loved ones.”

The journey of Ambareesh Murty was a remarkable one, marked by his contributions and achievements. He, along with Ashish Shah, established Pepperfry in 2012, an innovative e-commerce platform specializing in furniture and home décor. Their visionary approach reshaped traditional retail norms, introducing an online virtual catalog, an in-house supply chain, and a widespread omnichannel presence across more than 100 Indian cities.

Ambareesh Murty's professional path was filled with diverse experiences. His career began at Cadbury in sales and marketing, and he later held significant roles, including VP of Marketing & Customer Service at Prudential ICICI AMC (now ICICI Prudential). Notably, he played a vital role in eBay's growth as the Country Manager of eBay India, Philippines, and Malaysia, and also served as Vice Chairman of the Internet & Mobile Association of India (IAMAI). Prior to Pepperfry, he led brand development at Levi Strauss India and held a strategic position at Britannia Industries.

Ambareesh's entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-found Pepperfry, leveraging his expertise in marketing, sales management, and corporate strategy. With over 14 years of diverse management experience spanning FMCG, financial services, and the internet sector, he was instrumental in shaping Pepperfry into a leading e-commerce player in the Indian furniture and home goods market.

His educational background was equally impressive, with a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) from Delhi College of Engineering and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the prestigious Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. These educational foundations provided a strong base for his entrepreneurial achievements and leadership excellence.

As we bid farewell to Ambareesh Murty, we remember a visionary leader who left an indelible mark on the e-commerce landscape. His legacy will continue to inspire and influence generations to come. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
